Footnotes1 The contents of Schenker’s “Depeche” are unclear. Tempting as it is to suggest that it was a draft of his Harmonielehre , in support of the publication of which d’Albert wrote successfully to the publisher J. G. Cotta on November 13 (cf. OJ 9/31, [2], November 14), it is more likely that it was the libretto or scenario of Amor und Psyche, as acknowledged by d’Albert in OJ 9/6, [40], June 3, and responded to in OJ 9/6, [41], June 15. 2 “aus meiner”: the diacritic over the first word confirms this reading, more likely though it might seem that d’Albert would be returning to his idyllic home and wife in Italy; however, this may be yet another sign of his fervent German nationalism (cf. OJ 9/6, [7]). |
