Nunmehr übersende ich das Vorwort in Manuscript. Ich mußte zu den augenblicklich in Deutschland stark pressierenden Problem Stellung nehmen. 2 Ich überlasse es indessen Ihnen, dem Setzer anzuzeigen, ob der Druck mit kleineren oder größeren Lettere zu besorgen ist. 3

Bis auf die 3. Correctur habe ich meine Arbeit getan.

I am now sending the Foreword in manuscript. I had to turn my attention to the currently very urgent problem in Germany. 2 Meanwhile, I leave it to you to instruct the typesetter whether the setting is to be done in smaller or larger type. 3

I have completed my work as far as the third proofs.

1 Writing of this letter is not recorded in Schenker's diary. It concerns return of proofs of the revised edition of Beitrag zur Ornamentik .

2 i.e. submission of Kontrapunkt I to Cotta in Stuttgart. In OJ 9/31, [18], April 25, Cotta states: "We learn with interest that we are to expect the manuscript of the second volume of your work in a little while, after a break in your work on the same in recent months." See also WSLB 9, June 23. The first proofs started reaching Schenker about October 31: see WSLB 24.

3 The Foreword appears to have been set in the same type-size but with reduced leading.
