Footnotes1 "final chapter": strictly speaking, that is "Modulation durch Enharmonik"; but why would he need to consult Dr. Goldbaum on that? Instead, he may well be referring to what follows that chapter, § 181, which lies outside the sequence of chapters and is entitled "Kritik der bisherigen Lehrmethode" ("Critique of Previous Methods of Teaching"). For that ‒ potentially controversial in nature ‒ he might well have sought strategic advice. |
