Abends Verstimmung wegen einer Bemerkung Brünauers bezüglich de rs uns bevorstehenden Konzertbesuches. Eine vielleicht übertriebene Vorsicht, immerhin: Klugheit gebietet eventuellen Schaden fernzuhalten. Schließlich kommt es in derlei Fragen nicht so sehr auf eine objektive Verletzung des Taktes, die ja nicht vorliegt, sondern nur auf den bösen Willen der Anderen an, die sich, weil sie es so haben wollen, empfindlich u. beleidigt stellen, ohne es in Wahrheit zu sein. Da man weder die Bosheit, noch deren Folgen im vorhinein [sic] berechnen kann, so liegt es auf der Hand, daß es opportun ist, nicht erst eine Veranlassung dazu zu geben, zumal wir beide nichts einbüs- {327} sen, wenn wir die Innigkeit unserer Beziehung den Menschentieren vorzudemonstriren unterlassen.

In the evening, displeasure on account of a remark of Brünauer's regarding the forthcoming concert we are attending. Perhaps an exaggerated precaution, but nonetheless: wisdom demands keeping possible harm at bay. In the end, it is not so much a matter in such questions of an objective infringement of tact, which is certainly not the case here, but merely of the ill will of others who, because they so wish it, pretend to be sensitive and to feel hurt without in truth doing so. Since one can reckon the malice or its consequences at the outset, then obviously it is opportune not to allow such a cause to arise in the first place, all the more since the two of us do not lose anything {327} by refraining from showing off our intimacy with human beings.
