Empfindsame Reise

11. Sept. 5¼ h früh:	Wir wollen’s gemeinsam unternehmen, Die schöne Reise mit Reimen verbrämen, Die reinen, schönen von Heinrich stammen, Die hinkenden leimte ich zusammen.

5¼h früh:   1)	Der Wagen ist kommen, der Wagen ist da, Hurrah, die reizende „Victoria“! Doch siehe, sie kann das Gepäck nicht ertragen, Drum muß noch zurück (!) der klein-kleine Wagen!!

7h:   2)	Zu fahren vom Mendel- zum Karerpaß Das macht uns beiden gar großen Spaß, So rasch mit italienischen Pferden – Warte nur, bald wird es langsamer werden.

7–½10h (die Reise bis Bozen),	Mit feierlicher Priestergebärde Erhebt sich die hohe Mendelwand Zu künden, daß reicher Segen werde Dem weiten „Überetscher“-Land!

„Überetscher“   4)	Wälder u. Seen, Weiler u. Städte, In Farbenflammen das Obst, die Reben Sich winden, u. lerchengleich um die Wette Jubeln Schlößer, die die Hügel heben!

5.)	Niedlich, wie auf bunten Bilderkarten, Stehen hier die Schlößer all’, Mit Türmen, Zinnen u. Scheißscharten* Mit Erkern, Brücken, Graben u. Wall!

12h   6.) (Bozen)	D as Intermezzo in Fr – „Es“ – dur Bei Greif am Bozner Watlersplatz Währt leider eine Stunde nur – Zuende war die üpp’ge Atz.

1½h   7.) (Abreise zum Paß)	Prophet’schen Geistes voll hab’ ich verkündet, Daß uns’re lust’ge Fahrt ein jähes Ende findet: Die schöne Eggenschlucht mißfiel den bock störrigen Pferden, Es mußte umgeladen u. umgestiegen werden!!

Sentimental Journey

Sept. 11, 5:15am	We want to undertake this together, To dress up the lovely trip in rhymes, The pure beautiful ones are by Heinrich, The lame ones I pasted together.

5:15 am   1)	The coach has arrived, the coach is here Hurrah, the charming "Victoria"! But look, it cannot bear the weight of the luggage, And so it must return, the tiny little coach!!

7:00   2)	To ride from the Mendel to the Karerpaß For the two of us is such great fun So quickly with Italian horses – Just wait, soon things will move slower.

7:00–9:30   3) (the trip as far as Bolzano)	With festive priestly gesture Announcing the high cliff of the Mendel That a rich blessing will cover The vast territory of the Upper Etsch!

Upper Etsch   4)	Forests and lakes, villages and towns, Are encircled in flaming colors by fruit and vines And castles raised like larches above hills rejoice in competition!

5.)	As on colorful picture postcards, All the castles stand here neatly, With towers, parapets and shit-slits,* With oriels, bridges, trenches, and circumvallation!

12:00   6.) (Bolzano)	The intermezzo in E(fl)AT major At the Greif on the Walthersplatz in Bolzano Lasts unfortunately only one hour – The sumptuous meal was over.

12:30   7.) (Descent to the pass)	With a seer's spirit I have prophesied That our enjoyable trip will meet a disastrous end: The lovely Eggenschlucht did not suit the stubborn horses, We had to dismount and transfer!!

7:30 evening   8.) Pass	Now on the pass of all passes, at the foot of the Latemar and the "Red Wall," Sweet Lie-lie's cradle still stands here, Before it, we happily take one another's hand!!

Excuse the "smelling" error! ¹ I mean, of course, embrasures, which of course look devilishly similar to the WCs of olden times!
