Footnotes
1 The a capella Mass, Oppel's main compositional project for 1926, was written in memory of his first wife, Gertrud, who had died on August 4, 1925 after a long illness. Schenker examined it closely sent Oppel copious notes on it (now lost), and apparently tried to interest Furtwängler and Klenau in performing it.
