Footnotes1 Schenker is presumably alluding to what became his kleine Bibliothek , although the Gę major Etude is not to be found among its surviving materials. 2 Schenker’s diary for this day records: “Mrs. Stirling, as predicted, pays her lesson fee reduced by 20 florins; but she has the impertinence to remain seated at the end of her lesson, and ask if she could also play me the Waltz in Aę: ‘if you want to hear how beautifully I play the waltz.’ It goes without saying that I did not ask her to do this.” |
