Footnotes

1 Schenker's diary for Tuesday December 29 records: "Weisse reads out a considerable portion of his work on the waltzes; since it is solidly based and eloquently written, I offer to recommend it immediately to Hertzka." This was the precursor to his dissertation on the "instrumental art waltz," written under the direction of Guido Adler, with which Weisse gained his PhD from the University of Vienna in 1919.
