Daughter of Ernst Kraus, advocate and Vice-President of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde 1908‒12, Hedwig Kraus studed music history at the University of Vienna 1915‒19. From 1919 she was assistant librarian to the Gesellschaft, from 1923 amanuenses of its archive, library and collections, and from 1930‒62 director of its archive. From 1922 she was a member of the editorial board of the Denkmäler der Tonkunst in Österreich, and also worked for Universal Edition from 1924.
Hedwig Kraus and Heinrich Schenker
Hedwig Kraus is mentioned several times in Schenker's diary and occasionally in correspondence. She wrote a postcard to Schenker on June 17, 1925 (OJ 12/20, [1]).
