Sehr geehrter Herr! 1

Dear Sir, 1

With the page make-up of pp. VII and VIII (Foreword), 2 one line has ended up in the wrong place. Despite this, I have put my imprimatur to it, since I have no doubt that the type-setter will get it right ‒ all the more so since I draw it to his attention once more here. 3

One other thing: it seemed to me that it would be visually more pleasing if the two parallel rule-frames surrounding "by an artist" were removed.

Once these are done, my proof-correcting labors will, happily, be at an end!

With kind regards,
Your devoted

Footnotes

1 Schenker's diary for November 3, 1906 reads: " Zwei Telegr. von Cotta wegen Bg. 28, 29 u. Titelbogen. Alles abgeschickt. Glückliche Vollendung." ("Two telegrams from Cotta concerning gatherings 28 and 29 and the prelims gathering. Everything sent off. Happy outcome."). One of those two telegrams is CA 51, the other appears not to survive.

2 i.e. the last two pages of the four-page Foreword, pp. V‒VIII.

3 Schenker presumably means that he has already marked the error on the proof, and assumes that the type-setter will read this letter.
