Derselbe hat aber nicht, wie Sie vielleicht annehmen, die gesamte Korrektur ausgeführt und überwacht, sondern nur die Platten revidiert, ob die Korrekturen alle ausgeführt sind. Die Hauptarbeit hiebei haben jedoch der Faktor und die betreffenden Notenstecher verrichtet. Wir wissen nicht, zu welchem Behufe Herr Professor den Namen des betreffenden Herrn wissen wollen, möchten jedoch Irrtümern verbeugen, indem wir Ihnen mitteilen, daß irgendwelche Orders oder Erklärungen bezüglich weiterer {2} Korrekturen am Besten an die Direktion zu richten sind, damit solche in richtiger Weise ausgeführt werden.

We acknowledge ¹ receipt of your esteemed postcard of the 4th of the month, ² and take the liberty of informing you that the letters “A. H.”, which are recorded in the final proofs of your Beethoven Edition, stand for the name of the reviser. However, that person has not, as perhaps you surmise, carried out and supervised the whole correction process, but has only checked the plates as to whether all the corrections have been implemented. It is the foreman and the relevant music engraver who have executed the main work. We do not know for what purpose the Professor wishes to know the name of the relevant person, but would like to avoid errors by informing you that any directives or explanations regarding {2} further corrections are best addressed to the Administration so that such matters are dealt with in the correct way.
