Nr. ⇧ 1563 ⇧ BERLIN, den ⇧ 9. 9. 21 ⇧ NW7, Unter den Linden 38 ⇧ Herrn Professor Dr. Heinrich Schenker Wien Sehr geehrter Herr! 1 Wir besitzen hier von den Händelschen Klavierwerken nur ein Exemplar der Originalausgabe in der sogenannten Amalienbibliothek, aus der wir nichts verleihen dürfen. Dagegen hat die Universitätsbibliothek in Königsberg, die Hamburger Stadtbibliothek und die Leipziger Stadtbibliothek ein Exemplar, das Sie sich wohl verschaffen können. Der Neudruck von 1733 2 dürfte Jhnen kaum willkommen sein, doch schicke ich Jhnen denselben gern; doch ⇧ es scheint dies nur der 5. Teil bestehend in 8 Suiten zu sein. Würde es sich nicht empfehlen, die Ausgabe der Händelgesellschaft zu Grunde zu legen? Den letzten Satz der C moll-Sinfonie 3 lasse ich Ihnen Schwarz-weiß photographieren, leider sind es 96 Blätter. [Added in Altmann's hand:] Preisermässigung [?wird] wieder stattfinden. Verbindlichsten Dank für die liebenswürdige Zusendung des ersten Heftes Jhres Tonwillen, sowie Jhrer Ausgabe von Beethovens opus 101. Verzeihen Sie, daß ich Jhnen noch nicht dafür gedankt habe; ich war längere Zeit beurlaubt und wollte Jhnen eine Besprechung 4 zusenden, {2} die ich geschrieben habe, die jedoch noch nicht erschienen ist. By contrast the University Library in Königsberg, the Hamburg City Library and the Leipzig City Library possess a copy which you could no doubt get hold of. The new print of 1733 2 is hardly likely to be acceptable to you but I will happily send it to you nonetheless; however ⇧ it appears to be only Part 5, consisting of eight suites. Would it not be advisable for you to use the Handel Society edition as your principal source? I am having the last movement of the C minor Symphony 3 photographed for you in black-and-white, but unfortunately there are 96 leaves. [Added in Altmann's hand:] There [?will] again be a price reduction. Sincerest thanks for kindly sending the first issue of your Tonwille, as well as your edition of Beethoven's Op. 101.
