Cordial thanks for your letter, 2 which is of great value to me. I just wanted to let you know that Mr. van Hoboken is still on his travels to Frankfurt and Munich, and that he will probably not return until the end of the week [cued from lower margin:] ⇧ Friday evening[end cue].

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary for May 14, 1929: “ An [recte Von] Deutsch (K.): dankt für den ‘wertvollen’ Brief” (“From Deutsch (postcard): he thanks me for the ‘valuable’ letter”).

2 Schenker recorded writing Deutsch a letter in his diary for May 10: “An Deutsch (Br.): mein Verdienst, die Bläser aufs Podium gerufen zu haben! Erzähle den Vorfall in der Violin-Probe bei Dr. Tommen. Dann haben sich die Bläser selbst auf die Beine gestellt, sind aber bald zusammengebrochen. Auch Wunderer kann da kein Wunder tun, er wird höchstens zum 102. Male das Konzert von Händel blasen u. Schaden stiften. Ich erwähne, daß v. Hoboken in 3–4 Jahren Wien zu verlassen gedenke.” (“To Deutsch (letter): my credit for summoning the wind players to the podium! I recount the incident at Violin’s rehearsal with Dr. Tommen. Then the wind players rose to their feet of their own accord but soon collapsed. Even Wunderer can work no wonders there; at most he will blare Handel’s concerto for the 102nd time, and cause harm. I mention that Hoboken is thinking of leaving Vienna in three to four years”).
