Wenn es Ihnen möglich ist, am Mittwoch mit Ihrer Frau Gemahlin zu uns zu kommen, so würden wir uns darüber sehr freuen. Auch nächste Woche Mittwoch wäre es noch möglich, Sie bei uns zu begrüssen. Da meine Frau zu Pfingsten verreist und ich nach ihrer Rückkehr Mitte Juni, so ist das vielleicht die letzte Möglichkeit eines Beisammenseins vor dem Herbst.

We would be delighted if you and your wife could come to us on Wednesday. Even Wednesday of the following week would still be a possible time for us to greet you at our place. As my wife will be away at Whitsun, and I in mid-June after she returns, this is perhaps the last time it will be possible for us to be together before the autumn.

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary: “Von Deutsch (expreß K.): ladet für Mittwoch, den 8., zum Tee” (“From Deutsch (express postcard): he invites us for Wednesday the 8th, for tea”). — Schenker’s response is recorded the next day: “An Deutsch (expreß K.): unmöglich, erst im Herbst.” (“To Deutsch (express postcard): impossible, not before the autumn.”).
