² On the Wednesday April 7, 1926, the Schenkers and the Deutsches visited Hoboken, as recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/8, p. 2933 (April 7, 1926): "Abends bei Hoboken (Im Auto abgeholt); treffen dort Deutsch u. Frau; die Unterhaltung fließt träge, kein Thema bricht sich Bahn, das streng musikalische ist Deutsch verschlossen, das streng bibliophile umgekehrt mir, u. so wird Heiterkeit gesucht, leider nicht gefunden." ("In the evening, at Hoboken's. (Collected by car); we meet Deutsch and his wife there. The discussion flows very slowly, without any theme taking the lead; the strictly musical is a closed book to Deutsch, as, conversely, the strictly bibliophilic is to me. And so merriment is sought, but unfortunately not found.").

³ The supper at the Deutsches' home took place on Wednesday April 14, 1926, as recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/8, p. 2935 (April 7, 1926): "Von Hoboken u. Vrieslander abgeholt zu Deutsch (8 – 12½h); der Tisch ist reichlicher gedeckt als bei Hoboken, die Weine freilich ausgenommen; auch die Unterhaltung gedeiht besser." ("Collected by Hoboken and Vrieslander, to Deutsch (8–12:30); the table is more generously laid than at Hoboken's, except, of course, for the wines; the conversation also succeeds better.").
