Hochverehrter Herr Doctor!

POSTCARD
for express pneumatic delivery [etc]

To: Dr. Heinrich Schenker, Esq.
Musician and Writer on Music
[Vienna] III, Reisnerstraße 38

February 1, 1903

Highly revered Dr. [Schenker],

Everything is in flux, 1 as the old philosopher said, and indeed with complete correctness. I therefore offer you nothing conclusive or definitive, for I cannot do so. 2

But your new edition 3 greatly pleases me from a hasty examination, and, if I remember correctly, it seems that you have proceeded very conscientiously. 4

We are sitting down now, with your edition and the old one to hand. – – If only my house were already in good order: my wife has been ill for two weeks and I must remain patient

3 Schenker's edition Klavierwerke von Philipp Emanuel Bach (Vienna: UE, [1903]), officially released on February 10, 1903. Frimmel was presumably sent a complimentary copy ahead of that date.
