Footnotes

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/5, p. 3681, November 27, 1931: "Von v. Hoboken (K., as Berlin): wird erst Mittwoch kommen." ("From Hoboken (postcard from Berlin): he will not come until Wednesday." — This confirms the postmarked date, and shows that Hoboken wrote "IX" intending to write "XI" in the dateline.

2 Hoboken returned in time to attend his lesson on Wednesday December 2. The lesson notes for that day (OC 16/30) begin: "Handschrift Chop Maz. cd zuende [Maz.] Asd neu begonnen." ("Manuscript of Chopin Mazurka in C major [Op. 24 No. 2] finished; Mazurka in Aę major [Op. 24, No. 3] newly begun.").
