Im März zog sich Lene in St. Anton beim Skifahren einen Knöchelbruch mit Bänderiß zu und über Ostern lag Arnold mit einer schweren Gallenblasenentzündung; momentan hat er eine besondere Diät und muß sich verschiedenen Untersuchungen unterziehen. Auch Karlsbader Kur hat er bereits gemacht. Nun schrieb mir Lotte, daß sich Hella in Wien einer Operation unterziehen mußte, (Frauensache, angebl. gutartig) teilte mir aber nur ihre Wohnungsadresse mit, nannte weder Operation noch Sanatorium[.] {recto} Meinen Brief ließ sie unbeantwortet, hätte sie ihn nicht erhalt[en] käme er ja zurück. Könntest Du etwas erfahren? Ich bin sehr in Sorge kann hier jetzt nicht weg Lotte’s Adr: Wien X, Erlachgasse 95/III od. 45/III? Schlechte unleserliche Zahl. ²

You will think ill of me because I left your kind Easter greetings unanswered, and appearances are sadly against me. But we are unfortunately stuck in the middle of a succession of misfortunes. From February to mid-March I was contending with severe ‘flu together with angina and very nearly inflammation of the lungs, which left me with a chronic catarrh that is defying all treatment. In March Lene sustained a broken ankle with torn ligament while skiing in St. Anton; and over Easter Arnold was confined to bed with inflammation of the gallbladder. At the moment, he is on a special diet, and has to undergo various tests, having already taken a Karslbad cure. Now Lotte has written to me that Hella had to undergo an operation in Vienna (a female thing, apparently benign), but gave me only her home address, and [that of] neither the operation nor the sanatorium. {recto} She did not answer my letter: [claimed] she had not received it [and] it would be sure to come back. Could you find out something for me? I am very worried [but] can’t get away from here. Lotte’s address is Vienna X, Erlachgasse 95/III or 45/III (badly written illegible number). ²
