{recto}
⇧ Postkarte Absender: ⇧ A. F. S. IX/3. Garnisongasse 22 ⇧ An ⇧ Hw Hrn Dr Heinrich Schenker Wien III. Keilgasse 8. © Transcription William Drabkin, 2022 |

⇧ Postcard From: ⇧ A. F. S. [Vienna] IX/3, Garnisongasse 22 ⇧ To: ⇧ Dr. Heinrich Schenker, Esq. Vienna III Keilgasse 8 ⇧ Galtür, Tyrol Paznaun Valley [sic], Hotel Rössler [postmark:] || [VIENNA ]2 | [illeg] * 4a * || ⇧ Dear friend, 1 First of all, most grateful thanks for thinking of me and arranging for your book 1 to be sent to me. I did not want to write to you until I had received and looked through it. But it {verso} has still not yet reached the editorial office; presumably the copies have not yet been sent off. If it is no trouble to you, it would of course be better for you to give my proper home address (see above!). I very much look forward to the book, and to the prospect of our seeing each other in the autumn. © Translation William Drabkin, 2022 |

Footnotes1 This postcard was delivered to the Schenker’s new Vienna address (to which they had moved in May 1921), and been re-addressed, probably by the concierge or maid, to their vacation address in Galtür. The absence of a seccond postmark recording delivery in Galtür is surprising. 2 Although the postcard is undated, it must have been written in the 1920s, when the Schenkers took their summer holidays in Galtür, certainly after May 1921 and most likely in 1921 itself, when they were staying at the Hotel Rössler. The “book” in question may be the last of the Beethoven Erläuterungsausgaben, Op. 101, copies of which were sent from the printers to the publisher on August 9, 1921. |
