Lieber, verehrter Meister, 1

vielen herzlichen Dank für die Adressen und das Briefchen betreffend Ho...en. Ich werde selbstverständlich gern von Ihrer lieben Aufforderung Gebrauch machen und im Jänner bei Ihnen anklopfen. Ihre Intervention möchte ich vorerst noch nicht in Anspruch nehmen, zuerst soll doch von Jonas aus an die betreffenden Herren eine offizielle Aufforderung abgesandt werden. Jedesfalls danke ich vielmals für Ihr liebenwürdiges Anerbieten und werde Sie vielleicht später bitten, in dieser Angelegenheit ein Wort fallen zu lassen. – Sehr froh bin ich dass H. der Idee einer regel- {recto} mässigen Publizierung von „Archiv“Neuigkeiten gewogen ist. 2

Dear, revered Master, 1

Many cordial thanks for the addresses and the short letter concerning Hoboken. It goes without saying that I shall make use of your kind offer and call upon you in January. For now, I do not yet wish to avail myself of your intervention; first of all, Jonas should send out an official invitation to all of the people concerned. At any rate, I thank you profusely for your kind proposal and will probably ask you at some later occasion to drop a good word in this regard. I am very glad that Hoboken is favorably disposed towards the idea of a {recto} regular publication about new things from the Archive. 2

Again, many thanks for your kind communication.


All good wishes from the two of us for the holidays.

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/1, p. 3155 (December 19, 1927): "Von Dr. Weisse (K.): dankt für die in Aussicht gestellte Einladung im Januar." ("From Dr. Weisse (postcard): he thanks me for the prospect of an invitation in January.")

2 The idea of publishing "new things from the Archive" began to take shape in the late 1920s as a series of projected "Communications"; this was later replaced by the idea of a "Yearbook" of longer articles. Both concepts never got beyond the drawing-board, on account of Hoboken's reluctance to support the Photogram Archive financially beyond the acquisition of manuscript reproductions.
