Liebstes Morizerl! 1

Du schreibst mir nichts aus Berlin? Lumperei!

Dearest Morizerl, 1

Why no word from you while you were in Berlin? Mean trick! When you finally have time, come and visit me. I have a lot of things to ask you.

Tell or write to your brother that I was free to occupy his Sunday afternoons in Hinterbrühl. 2 If you come out, too, it will be a crowd!

More when we next meet.

Footnotes

1 In the period covered by this folder (1897 to 1900), Violin’s visits to Berlin fell only in 1900. It seems as if Violin has returned from Berlin and is now in Vienna, and we know he was in Berlin in February and back in Vienna by April 5 at the latest. This letter has therefore been tentatively associated with the envelope dated April 27, 1900.

2 Hinterbrühl: town in the district of Mödling, 30km (18 miles) southwest of central Vienna. At this time Eduard Violin lived in Vienna’s Sixth District, Wallgasse 26; perhaps he had a second residence or stayed in a regular guesthouse in Hinterbrühl.
