Irene lernt zum Examen für den Herbst, 4–5 Stunden täglich, kann der Köchin nicht helfen, abgesehen davon, dass sie ungeschickt dazu ist. Der gn. Frau die Hilfe in der Küche, [illeg] zumuthen ist wohl schwer, auch nicht in unser aller Interesse. Auf {3} die Dauer von ein paar Tagen würde ich es schon nicht mehr verantworten – ich sage es ganz offen – dass Ihr hier bleibt. Whether it would be worth your while, in addition to Aussee, probably at a fixed rent, to rent another small room in Kalwang, is for you to decide. ²

{2} I merely ask you candidly to acknowledge reflect upon the fact that, as regards the Mayerhofers, I feel you and your sister to be, and represent you as belonging intrinsically to my own circle of friends, and therefore have to reckon with my own conscience as to what financial burden I should be saddling them with through my friends. Mozio stayed here three days and already that proved too much for the cook. Miss Irene is studying four to five hours a day for an exam in the Fall; she can’t help the cook, not to mention that she is unskilled in cooking. Even to raise with Madam help in the kitchen is really difficult, and not in all our interests. For {3} a stay of several days I couldn’t take responsibility – I speak quite candidly – for your staying here. To come here for one day is a happy possibility, but I fear it would be too costly.

There is still the possibility for you to live in the guesthouse and eat there. But in that case, I give you a friendly warning that the two of you would not have much company. Especially because Hermann brought back from Graz something regrettable (a man’s disease), which does not permit him to walk, run, not to be at all lively. He spends all his time sitting in the room brooding over poetry.

{4} Now, the two women would be accessible from teatime on. The old lady sleeps, as is well known, after the meal; the young lady studies the whole of the morning. I however must get out during my free time and go walking – more than your sister could tolerate. In any case, I must now climb alone in the mountains, and it would indeed be agreeable to me to have you as a companion, but I really cannot display such selfishness as to leave you in the lurch for as long as I have to sit in the room and work.

So, to be fair, I think just a visit. A longer stay is possible, but would be tedious. That is my candid opinion.
