Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor!

Dear Director,

I dutifully inform you that Mr. Karpath has complained, both through an intermediary and to me in person, that the UE has not sent him a review copy of my Ninth Symphony monograph. 1 Without wishing to have any further influence, I pass this on to you and send my best greetings

as your devoted

Footnotes

1 Karpath reviewed the monograph for the Neues Wiener Tagblatt, April 7, 1913, a clipping of which is preserved in Schenker’s scrapbook at OJ 2/p. 29 (unsigned, but authorship is proven by Schenker’s diary entry for April 3, 1913).

2 The supplementary payment requested by Schenker for work on the proofs of his monograph Beethovens neunte Sinfonie, to which Hertzka in principle acquiesced.
