Der Zufall will, daß gleich die erste Blumenhandlung, in die wir eintreten, sich zum Stock bekennt u. Rothberger als den Absender nennt. Entschuldigung von Seite des Blumenhändlers (wegen starken Geschäftes!); er fragt mich: „Habe ich die Ehre mit der Firma Schenker?“ Ich: Mit einer größeren. Er: „Ja, es gibt noch größere {78} Häuser, z. B. Rothschild.“ ¹ Ich: „Mit einem noch größeren.“ Inzwischen kommt die Karte zum Vorschein u. wir verlassen das Geschäft. —

— Errand in the Bräunerstraße, and to the ticket bureau for seats for Don Giovanni; this time unobtainable. – Search for florists in the Dorotheergasse and the sender of the plant. As chance would have it, the very first florist we visit admits to having dispatched the plant and names Rothberger as the sender. Apologies from the florist (on account of heavy volume of business!). He asks me: "Do I have the honor of addressing the firm of Schenker?" I: "With a greater one." He: "Yes, there are even greater {78} houses, for instance, Rothschild." ¹ I: "With a still greater one." In the meantime, the card surfaces and we leave the shop. —
