Footnotes1 Receipt of the volume is acknowledged by Rudorff in OJ 13/37, 13, November 16, 1910. 2 There is no reference to Jeanette Kornfeld in Schenker's diary throughout the summer of 1910 (it is perhaps significant that Schenker spent it for the first time in Karerpass, which was Jeanette's birthplace). We can only infer from the diary entry for the month of September ("Homeward journey to Vienna via Munich with J. K.") and the knowledge from later years of the diary that her arrival in Vienna took place on September 30, that she joined Schenker in Germany (Stuttgart? ‒ we don't know for sure that he went to Stuttgart to present the Handbibliothek in person, as he wanted) and then traveled to Vienna with him. We do know, though, from this letter that he initially asked that copies of his Harmonielehre and Kontrapunkt 1 be sent to Jeanette's Aussig address, and then (CA 129, October 3) countermanded that instruction and asked that they be sent with his own copies to his home address in Vienna. |
