Herrn Dr. H. Schenker, Wien III, Keilgasse 8
München, den 28. 11. 30

Sehr geehrter Herr Doktor! 1

Mit vorzüglicher Hochachtung

Dear Dr. [Schenker], 1

Unfortunately, Röder did not receive the approval to publish the music illustrations from Tomay until the 26th, and in fact without the approved printout which he requested. It is now altogether unlikely that we shall get the third Yearbook to Berlin in time; we will, however, immediately be in touch with Röder about it once again, as it is naturally very important to us to adhere to the deadline. Please send us once again the exact address where the lecture will be given as soon as possible. 2

Respectfully yours,

Footnotes

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary for November 29, 1930: “Vom Verlag (K.): am 26. d. endlich das Imprimatur eingelangt, doch habe Tomay für sich noch einen Abzug ‘angefordert’, wodurch das Erscheinen zum 6. XII. in Frage gestellt sei! – bitten um die genaue Adresse des Vortragsortes.” (“From the publishers (postcard): the imprimatur finally received on the 26th, but Tomay has “requested” yet another printout, whereby publication by December 6 is in jeopardy! – they ask for the precise address of the place where the lecture will be given.”). — Later that day, Schenker wrote to the publishers to explain that Tomay wanted a printout of his work merely for personal reasons.

2 Hans Weisse was due to give an important lecture to the Central Institute for Education in Berlin on December 6 about Schenker’s theory, for which he was intending to use the third Meisterwerk yearbook for illustrative purposes.
