Schönen Dank für die unschönen Nachrichten 2 – ich hatte auch schon etwas Läuten zu hören bekommen. Nun kann ich nur raten, die Stunden einzeln zu geben. Aber vielleicht ist das nicht praktikabel. Hoffentlich können wir bald wieder Gedanken und Erinnerungen austauschen. Herzlichst ergeben Ihr

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary for November 9, 1933: “Von Deutsch (K.): dankt schön für die ‘unschönen’ Nachrichten; bittet um eine Aussprache.” (“From Deutsch (postcard): kind thanks for the ‘unkind’ news; he asks to speak with me.”).

2 In his diary for November 6, Schenker reports to Deutsch having received two letters from Hoboken (neither surviving), with a request to spend more time with him than the two hours of lessons arranged [on Friday November 10]. Schenker sent an excerpt of one of these letters to Deutsch. The meeting with lesson for the 10th was postponed to the 11th, and Schenker’s diary for the latter day records: “bleibt von 6–7h – herzlich – ich verspreche, ihm keinen Geldschaden zu machen – er erwidert kein Wort!!!” (“[Hoboken] stays from 6 to 7 o’clock – cordial – I promise not to inflict any financial damage on him – he does not say a word in response!!!”).
