1 Receipt of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker’s diary. Schenker does, however, record completing and sending Deutsch a twelve-page letter on August 6, without summarizing its contents; this letter does not survive.

2 Anton Felix Schindler, Biographie von Ludwig van Beethoven (Münster, 1840). Schenker had asked Deutsch earlier in the summer to look for this book (see OJ 10/3, [63], letter of July 7).
