Mein lieber Wilhelm! 1

Gleichzeitig sende ich Dir per Kreuzband 2 verschiedene Aufsätze aus allerjüngster Zeit, die in Berlin erschienen sind u. eine Würdigung meiner Arbeiten bringen („Das Meisterwerk in der Musik“, 2 „Heinrich Schenker“ 3 ). Wenn du das überschlägst, was technisch ist, wirst du genug finden, was Dir verständlich sein wird. Beide Aufsätze bringen zum Ausdruck, daß ich der erste Musiker der letzten 50 Jahre bin, (wie sich Vriesl. an anderer Stelle ausgedrückt hat). Kurz, wie die Wiener sagen, höher geht es nimmer. Aber ein solches Buch trug [?mir] bisher 400 S. ein – den Rest muß ich durch Stunden suchen. Es war nie anders, es wird nicht anders. –

Wie geht es {recto} Dir?? Wann kommst Du nach Wien? Was macht die l. Frau Marie? Ich habe schon lange keine Analyse machen lassen, keine Zeit! Bis ich was weiß, schreibe ich. Laßt was hören.

My dear Wilhelm, 1

I am simultaneously sending you as printed papers two different, most recent essays, which appeared in Berlin and include recognition of my works (“The Masterwork in Music”, 2 “Heinrich Schenker” 3 ). If you skip the technical material, you will find enough that will be understandable to you. Both essays highlight that I am the premier musician of the last fifty years (as Vrieslander has expressed elsewhere). In short, as the Viennese say, it doesn’t get any higher. However, to date such a book has brought [?me] 400 shillings – I have to drum up the rest through lessons. It was never any different, it will never be different. –

How are {recto} you?? When are you coming to Vienna? What is going on with your dear wife, Marie? I have long since not had any blood tests done, no time! I’ll write when I know something. Let us hear from you.
