1 Writing of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker's diary. No letters or postcards from Moriz Violin to Schenker from 1909 survive.

2 These words are problematic: the first appears as either "An ’e" or "Str ’e", and the second is heavily corrected by overwriting. Why they should be placed in quotation-marks is unexplained by the suggested reading and translation.

3 The recital by Raoul Pugno took place, as indicated, on December 16 at 7.30 p.m. in the large hall of the Musikverein Building "at popular prices." The program comprised J. S. Bach, Italian Concerto; Handel, Gavotte variée; Beethoven, Piano Sonata in Cě minor, Op. 27 ("Moonlight"); pieces from Schumann's Phantasiestücke, Op. 12; Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26; and a selection of pieces by Chopin.

4 "Mttm", "Sofie", "Felix" all written in different hands, presumably signatures. The final three words are not in Schenker's hand, but also not obviously in that of one of these others.
