Were you so kind as to ask Miss Reich to let me know whether the 2,400 Czech 2 Kronen for [payments] 1 and 2 had been deposited? – the pupil maintains that it has just been done. By now the sum must amount to 3,600. In any event, I must know the name [recte address] of Miss R., so that I do not have to annoy her father unnecessarily. We assume that you are likely to be staying in Baden, something that would in any event be more appropriate. 3 © Translation William Drabkin, 2011 |

Footnotes1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/2, p. 2320: "An Frau Wally (K.): erbitte die Adresse des Frl. Reich, um in Erfahrung zu bringen, ob das Honorar schon erlegt ist." ("To Wally (postcard): requesting the address of Miss Reich, so that we can find out whether or not the fee has been dealt with."). 2 In writing this word, Schenker has put a circumflex over the letter "z." 3 "gemäßer": Schenker may mean "more suitable," or "more affordable." |
