Am 18ten d. M. hoffe ich die Partitur meiner neuen Oper 1 zu vollenden. Bitte recht herzlichst bis dahin mit dem biographischen Notizen 2 sich gedulden zu wollen. Es wird mir grosse Freude bereiten, Ihnen damit dienen zu können, obgleich aber mein Lebensgang sich wenig sagen lässt, – ich werde jedoch den Versuch machen! Das Ende nächster Woche haben Sie die Skizze in Händen, – bitte überhaupt die Verzögerung zu entschuldigen. Meine neue Oper kann vor Ende Oktober nicht erscheinen, 3 – würde ein Manuscript-Klavierauszug Sie interessiren? I hope to finish the score of my new opera 1 on the 18th of the month. I beg you to be patient over my biographical jottings 2 until then. It will afford me great pleasure to be able to supply you with these; although, however, my life does not leave much to be said, I will nonetheless make the attempt! You will have the sketch in your hands at the end of next week – anyway, please forgive the delay. My new opera cannot appear before the end of October. 3 Would a piano reduction in manuscript be of any interest to you? Immermann, first performed in Dresden, November 28, 1895. 2 The article in Die Zukunft, vol. 9 (October 6, 1894), 31–36 included an autobiographical sketch by d’Albert (see OJ 9/6, [7]), followed by a longer piece on d’Albert as pianist and composer by Schenker; see Hellmut Federhofer, ed., Heinrich Schenker als Essayist und Kritiker (Hildesheim: Georg Olms Verlag, 1990), pp. 115–21. 3 d’Albert is saying that the score will not be published in time to catch Schenker’s Zukunft article, hence the following question. 4 Schenker is evidently spending the summer in Kautzen. The earliest previous reference we have is from 1907, when his mother was living there (diary, June 4, 1907)? 5 No items of correspondence from Schenker to d’Albert are known to survive. |
