Amalie Scheidl
Documents associated with this person:
Landlady of a guesthouse at Vienna XVIII, Cottagegasse 20–21, and at Vienna XIX, Hasenauerstraße 12 (Lehmann’s allgemeiner Wohnungs-Anzeiger 1936). (Hasenauerstraße and Cottagegasse cross at their mid-points, but the two buildings are separate premises some distance apart.)
Jeanette Schenker lodged at Hasenauerstrasse 12 from at least October to mid-November 1935, and at Cottagegasse 21 from late November 1925 to at least early November 1936 and quite possibly well into 1937, since her next address is not encountered until December 1937.
Jeanette addressed Amalie as “Frau Dr. Scheidl,” i.e. the widow of Hans Scheidl MD, of Cottagegasse 21 (Lehmann’s 1926). The couple had a daughter (name unknown). The guesthouse was named “Pension Dr. Scheidl.”
Correspondence
Correspondence between Jeanette Schenker and Amalie Scheidl is recorded in Jeanette’s Travel Diary in September 1936 on her return to Europe from Chile, but none of it survives. Jeanette received surviving correspondence at those addresses from her sister and brother-in-law Rosa and Arnold Weil, Hans Wolf, Eva van Hoboken, and Oswald Jonas.
