Footnotes1 = OC 52/427, June 3, 1912. 2 See OC 52/405, June 5, 1912, for bank document. 3 OC 52/410, July 2, 1920, Hertzka to Schenker. There is some confusion over the numbering of editions of this work, of which a limited schools edition was issued in 1908, the first public edition February 6, 1909, and the second edition in 1912. What Hertzka means by "Druckauftrag" is unclear: UE issued the order for the second public edition of the work on March 1, 1912, and took delivery on May 7 (500 copies) and August 23 (1,500 copies); possibly a second instruction was given to initiate the second batch. Schenker, on the other hand, counting the schools edition as the first edition, reckons the present edition to be the third, as in WSLB 112, May 11, 1912. UE took delivery of the third edition in November 9, 1920 (source: UE Verlagsdruckbuch, UE 1999). It is interesting that in 1920 Schenker went back to this letter to make the annotation, while annotating the 1920 letter "wegen 1912!" ("concerning 1912!"). The 1920 letter reviews the history of the publication since 1909, and the payments that Schenker has received. |
