Footnotes

1 = OJ 9/6, [52], dated November 27, 1911, of which the postscript reads: "Von Ihrer Ausgabe der chromatischen Fantasie bin ich entzückt!" ("I am enchanted by your edition of the Chromatic Fantasy ").

2 Sir George Grove, Beethoven and His Nine Symphonies (London: Novello, 1896), of which Schenker possessed a copy of the German translation by Max Hehmann (London 1906) (see Musik und Theater, enthaltend die Bibliothek des Herrn Dr. Heinrich Schenker, Wien (Vienna: Antiquariat Heinrich Hinterberger, n.d.), item 40). In WSLB 86, November 30, 1911, Schenker states that he had lent it to Hertzka as a "model" the previous year, and now requests its return in time for correction of proofs.
