Footnotes1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary (March 25, 1927): “Von Deutsch (K.): ist ebenfalls zu Gräser geladen, geht auch hin” (“From Deutsch (postcard): he has likewise been invited to Graeser’s lecture and is going”). 2 Wolfgang Graeser (1906–28), Swiss composer and arranger, best remembered for his research on Bach’s Art of Fugue and for working out its overall unified design. He lectured widely on this in 1926 and 1927 and prepared an orchestration that won him much acclaim. — Schenker’s diary for March 24 records: “Von der deutschen Gesandtschaft Einladung zum Vortrag Gräser” (“From the German embassy, invitation to the lecture by Gräser”). |
