Hochgeehrter Herr Doctor!

Very dear Dr. [Schenker],

I would have liked today to thank you personally for your kind letter. The organ sonatas [sic] have not yet arrived. 1

Then I wanted to ask you for the C. P. E. Bach concerto that you played so magnificently last season, because of a passage that Beethoven may have known. 2 The tickets to my Beethoven lectures for you, Mr. Violin, Mrs. Mayerhofer and her daughter and Prof. Gärtner will follow in the coming days. The addresses, I assume, are unchanged.

With friendly greetings,
[signed:] Dr. Frimmel

Footnotes

1 In BNba Frimmel Nachl, [1], March 13, 1905, Schenker wrote saying that at his instigation Universal Edition had sent Frimmel his Handel Organ Concertos, vol. I.

2 C. P. E. Bach wrote three A minor keyboard concertos that are possible candidates for this: Helm 403, 424, and 430. Schenker performed the concerto in question on November 7(?), 1904, see OJ 11/10, [6]. — Schenker's diary for October 12, 1903 records: "Im Archiv auf das herrliche Mcpt-Kl. Konz. A-moll von Ph. Em Bach gestoßen." ("In the Archive the magnificent manuscript [of the] keyboard concerto in A minor by C. P. E. Bach encountered."). None of the three appear to be in manuscript at the archive of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
