Ich habe auf Deinen vorletzten rekommandierten Mahnbrief ² aus dem Grunde nicht geantwortet, weil ich täglich die Erledigung der Hypothekarsache abwartete. Endlich habe ich erst heute von der Credit-Anstalt eine vom 6. d. Mts. datierte Promesse auf S. 50000.– bekommen. ³ Die Durchführungsformalitäten (Eintragung Grundbuch etc.) werden aber sicher nicht bis zum 15. d. Mts. erledigt ⁴ sein, so dass ich den von Dir vorgeschriebenen Termin nicht werde einhalten können. Ich setze alles darein, um so rasch als möglich die Sache zu erledigen, und bitte ich Dich vielmals noch um etwas Geduld. Dein Geld mit Zinsen ist Dir sicher, ⁵ u. leider kann ich Niemanden auch vorläufig anpumpen, weil Niemand einen flüssigen Groschen hat.

Wie Du aus den Briefpapier siehst, ist meine neue Firma bereits gegründet und protokolliert. ⁶ Leider sind die Zeiten sehr schwere u. muss ich mit Finanzierungen sehr vorsichtig eingehen.

Helga ist mit ihrer Kollegin, ⁷ deren Mutter vorige Woche gestorben ist, gestern nach Holland gereist. Der Bub hatte 3 Wochen Urlaub, u. ist wieder im Dienst. Leider arbeitet er nichts für sich, rennt einem Mädel nach u. macht mir Sorgen. Dies tut mir umsomehr noch, als ich gerade jetzt in London eine Gruppe gefunden zu haben glaube, welche die bewusste {2} Symphonie-Filmsache in Baden mit 8.6 Millionen Schillingen machen will. Ich würde natürlich die oberste Leitung haben u. [illegible word] auf Orchester, Dirigenten etc. haben, aber der Junge hat sich in irgendeinem Fratzen verliebt u. benützt jeden freien Moment, um mit dem Mädel u. Motorrad herumzufahren. So jagt eine Freude die andere.

I have not replied to your last but one registered reminder ² because I have been holding out day by day for the settlement of the mortgage question. At long last I have only today received from the Creditanstalt a promise of 50,000 shillings dated the 6th of the month. ³ But completion of the formalities (entry in the land registry, etc.) will certainly not be finalized before the 15th of the month, ⁴ thus I will not be able to meet the deadline set by you. I have put my efforts into having the matter settled as quickly as possible, and ask you yet again for a little patience. Your money, with interest, is safe; ⁵ unfortunately, there is nobody from whom I can cadge in the meanwhile because nobody has a penny to spare.

As you can see from the letterhead, my new company is already established and accredited. ¹ Alas, times are very hard, and I have to proceed very cautiously in financial matters.

Helga is with her colleague, ⁷ whose mother died the week before last, and yesterday travelled to Holland. My lad had three weeks leave, and is again in service. He isn’t working for himself, is chasing after a lass, and is proving a headache to me. This affects me all the more, since right now I believe I have found a group in London that will [?provide] 8.6 million shillings for the well-known {2} symphony film [?project] in Baden. I would naturally have the best possible leadership and [?control] over orchestra, conductors, etc., but the boy has fallen in love with some [?little minx] and spends every free moment driving around with the lass on a motorcycle. So it’s one joy after another.
