Mit dem l. Mozio raufe ich weiter, binnen 4 Wochen verlor ich 2 Kg an Gewicht u. stieg nach 0 plötzlich auf 1° Zucker. Sein neuester Trick ist der, daß er jeder Termin, den ich setzte, pünktlich einhält u. zwar so, dass er mir pünktlich auf den Tag schreibt, dass er den Tag noch nicht einhalten kann, dass er aber … , da er mit dem Gut {2} auf dem Buckel nicht durchgehen kann. ³ Immer dasselbe.

Nun setzte ich den 10. 6 als äußersten Termin an, ich telegraphierte verzweifelt ⁴ (früher schrieb ich mehrmals), bis jetzt habe ich überhaupt keine Antwort! Die Aufregungen u. die Folgen, die vollständige Ruinierung meines wirtschaftlichen Lebens[‚] die Gefährdung des Sommers, in dem ich doch keinerlei Einkommen habe, die Gefährdung des Herbstes, das Verschleudern des einzigen Kassenscheines – nichts interessiert ihn, er hat sein Gut, investiert, melioriert, – so hat er es auch schon früher getrieben, bis ich zum Advokaten gelaufen bin: {3} Ich fürchte, daß er auch jetzt nicht einen Groschen herlegen wird, bis ich ihn durch den Anwalt vermahne.

Wie peinlich ist es mir, zu Dir. D^r. Halberstam gehen u. ihm erzählen zu müssen, weshalb es mir schlechter geht. Der eigene Bruder tut mir das an, dem ich so viel Gutes getan habe u. bis zur Stunde noch tue!

Now, I scheduled June 10 as the absolute last date. I wired [him] distraught ⁴ (previously, I wrote several times). Up to now, I have no answer at all! The commotions and the consequences, the complete ruination of my economic life, the jeopardizing of the summer in which I have no income of any kind, the jeopardizing of the fall, the squandering of the sole cashier’s check – nothing interests him. He has his property, invested, meliorated – that’s also the way he handled it earlier, until I ran to the attorney. {3} I fear that now, too, he will lay out not one Groschen until I admonish him through an attorney.

How painful it is to me, to have to go to Director Dr. Halberstam and have to tell him why I am doing worse. My own brother is doing that to me, for whom I have done so much good, and up to now still do!
