Footnotes1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/7, p. 2744, October 19, 1924: "An Cube (expreß-K. [sic]): kündige die Schülerin an, gebe ihm Winke für die Honorarforderung." ("To Cube (express postcard): alert him to the new student, give him a tip on what fee to charge."). 2 "Schülerin … Schülerin": lit. female student, in both cases. 3 This appears to be Cube's first offer of employment since arriving in Vienna almost a year before. The lessons apparently did not go smoothly, as Schenker mentions Cube's early difficulties as a teacher a year later, in a letter to Cube's father (OJ 5/7a, [2], September 13, 1925). Neither the name of the pupil nor that of her teacher is given in either letter. |
