[printed:] ⇧ Postcard [top-left, picture captioned: Wien-Schönbrunn] [To:] ⇧ Prof. Felix v. Cube, Duisburg (Rhineland), Kuhstraße 23–25I [postmark:] || 3 WIEN 40 | 10.XI.30. 13 | [illeg] || {verso} Dear Professor von Cube, 1 I have just suggested to Weisse that he invite you, too, along with Professor Violin in Hamburg and Professor Oppel in Kiel and Leipzig, to the lecture. Violin will definitely be coming; perhaps you too can also show yourself there? 2 Who is this Mr. Stürmer from Duisburg , whose "open letter" to Paul Hindemith I happened to read in the October issue of Die Musik ? Very strong and effective. 3 In the November issue, someone confesses his allegiance to the Urlinie without, however, understanding it. 4 {recto} This will take a while longer. © Translation William Drabkin, 2006 |

Footnotes1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/4, p. 3537, November 10, 1930: "An v. Cube (K.): erkundige mich nach Stürmer; mache auf das Urlinie-Zitat im Novemberheft der „Musik“ aufmerksam." ("To von Cube (postcard): I inquire about Stürmer; draw attention to the Urlinie quotation in the November issue of Die Musik."). 2 Schenker writes an emdash at this point, then continues on without a paragraph-break. 3 This letter is not cited in the Schenker Scrapbook (OC 2) or in OJ, and Cube does not appear to have answered Schenker's question. No paragraph-break at this point. 4 This may be an article "Entwurf einer neuen Harmonielehre" by one Hermann, identified by Jeanette Schenker as having been published in the November issue of Die Musik (Schenker Scrapbook, OC File 2/p. 80). |
