Florizissime,

Also wärest du dabei? Ja, oder nein.

Karp. möchte 1 Mai schon anfangen!

Florizissime,

Yesterday I forgot to tell you that “Monsignor” Karpath wishes in earnest to take piano lessons in order to attain the most basic standard (twice weekly). He himself defers to me and wishes to enlist me just for theoretical subjects. 1 For piano, I recommended you to him, Master, and I think that, whatever the circumstances, you should take him on, since {2} he could be very, very {2} useful to you with Mahler (recommendations to other conductors) and at the Neues Wiener Tagblatt , etc.

He is a really good fellow!

So, are you on board with this? Yes or No?

Karpath would like to begin right away on May 1.

Footnotes

1 This is perhaps the first indication that Schenker regarded theory as a separate entity for purposes of teaching, and also that for him it encompassed several “disciplines.”
