Hertzka issued Tonwille 3 yesterday, so you really will be receiving your copy, as usual! Please ensure that some musicians purchase this issue: it is to their own advantage. I have instructed my pupils to purchase up to ten copies each, and give them away as presents. I am myself donating 100 copies of issue 4 ("issue for schools") to imperial German music schools (distribution to be undertaken by friends, e.g. you get ten copies to distribute to schools). — How are things with Karli? Improving steadily, I very much hope. What do you think of {recto} the "Peoples of the West" in the "Miscellanea" of issue 3? 2 Although it was written a year ago, it has proved to be truly prophetic. However, it was not difficult, only for certain German editorial offices.

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is recorded at OJ 3/4, p. 2491, January 21, 1923: "An Hans Guttmann, Hammer, Floriz, Vrieslander (K.): kündige das 3. Heft an." (To Hans Guttmann, Hammer, Floriz, Vrieslander (postcard): I announce [publication of] issue 3.") — On the previous day (ibid), he wrote to his brother: "An Mozio (Br.): ersuche 10–20 Hefte Tonwillen zu kaufen u. zu verschenken. (To Mozio [Schenker] (letter): I ask [him] to purchase ten to twenty issues of Der Tonwille and to give them away as present.").

2 fn2. "Vermischtes" ("Miscellanea"), Der Tonwille, Heft 3, pp. 26–38 (Eng. trans., vol. I, pp. 121–37), the general tenor of which is the superiority of German aristocratic genius over "Western" democracy. The title that Schenker places in quotation-marks here does not, however, appear as a heading in the published version.
