WSLB 97 - Handwritten express postcard from Schenker to Hertzka (UE), dated February 7, 1912
{recto}
[All in a decorative rule-frame] [Absender:] ⇧ Heinrich Schenker III., Reisnerstr. 38 [An:] Herrn Direktor Emil Hertzka I., Reichsrathstr. 9 „Universal-Edition“ [postmark:] || 1/4 WIEN [illeg] | 7.II.1[2] XI 10 | * P * || [postmark:] || 3/3 WIEN [illeg] | [illeg] 12 [illeg] | * P * || {verso} ⇧ Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor! [overwritten across paras 1-2, in crayon:] ⇧ Erl 7/II 1912 © Transcription Ian Bent, 2006, 2023 |

[All in a decorative rule-frame] [From:] ⇧ Heinrich Schenker [Vienna] III, Reisnerstraße 38 [To:] Director Emil Hertzka [Vienna] I, Reichsrathstraße 9 Universal Edition [postmark:] || 1/4 VIENNA [illeg] | 7.II.1[2] XI 10 | * P * || [postmark:] || 3/3 VIENNA [illeg] | [illeg] 12 [illeg] | * P * || {verso} ⇧ Dear Director, If only the printers had acted upon my few words to the effect that formal diagram 1 will be added subsequently! 1 As things now stand, the citations of pages in the course of the gatherings are out by about 3: am I right in thinking that the printers will send me a complete set of gatherings once more for the purpose of correcting cited pages † ? – Was that really the only reason why I often waited for so many gatherings before being able to send in the first one? Perhaps we will still be able to bring pages into agreement. [overwritten across paras 1-2, in crayon:] ⇧ Dealt with February 7, 1912 © Translation Ian Bent, 2006, 2023 |

Footnotes1 For Schenker's monograph Beethovens Neunte Sinfonie . Hertzka, in OC 52/76, January 12, 1918, proposed that Schenker add diagrams to precede movements 2, 3, and 4, as well as that already supplied for movement 1; in WSLB 94, January 15, Schenker readily agreed; in WSLB 96, February 3, he enclosed the diagram for the second movement. |
