L. Freund!

Daß ich endlich – Sonntag Vormittag – Zeit habe, Ihnen zur „N. Fr.

Dear friend,

I finally – Sunday morning – have time to congratulate you on the Neue Freie Presse ! A magnificent triumph of your principle; let us hope that it will also be path-breaking. Yesterday’s feuilleton 1 was thoroughly beautiful – how I would have liked to speak with you about it in person, were it not for my damned evening occupation. 2 I could not wait until Thursday ([engagement with the] Eisslers); I was obliged, in order to free myself from the burden of joy, at least to write these lines to you.

Many greetings from your
