Footnotes1 The review in the Neue freie Presse, Abendblatt, March 2, 1911, p. 3, col. ("Dr. Heinrich Schenker has once again arranged Bach and organized a concert in which he officiated as conductor and naturally enough collaborated with Messrs. Gärtner and Violin, a mixed chorus and a small orchestra. Among other matters, there were several things to object to in the treatment of the recitative in the Kreuzstab Cantata. The performance was less [than] perfect. One left with pleasant memories of Messchaert."). — A much longer and more detailed review containing also reviews of Moriz Violin's essay Über das sogenannte Continuo and Schenker's recently published Kontrapunt I, appeared in the Neues Wiener Journal of the same date. Both reviews are preserved at OC 2/p. 23. 2 = OJ 5/34, [1], long, extravagantly worded letter in which Schenker thanks Rothschild for his past support and announces the forthcoming publication of Beethovens neunte Sinfonie . |
