OJ 15/6, [2] - Handwritten letter from Richard Wahle to Schenker, dated June 18, 1899
Count de la Scala is not in Czernowitz. Another member of the state parliament promised me to intervene with Count de la Scala on behalf of your brother-in-law. So write to your brother-in-law to tell him that he might approach Count de la Scala (Stanestia) to certify that the member of parliament, Professor Dr. Smal-Stocki, 1 has already acted on his behalf, or that he will do so. (Perhaps you could write to me once again about your brother-in-law, giving his full name, possibly by registered letter.) © Translation William Drabkin, 2022 |

Footnotes1 The Ukranian linguist, Stepan Smal-Stocki (1859–1938), received his doctorate in Slavic philology at the University of Vienna in the mid-1880s and served as a professor of Ukrainian Language and Literature at the University of Czernowitz (1885–1918). He was a member of the Landtag (state parliament) of Bukovina from 1892 to 1912; later, he served as a member of the Austrian Parliament (1911–18). — I am grateful to Mr. Patrick Gyasi (Austrian Parliamentary Administration) for guiding me to this information. |
