Like Otto Bauer, he was one of the theoreticians of Austro-Marxism. In his school of Neo-Kantianism, he attempted to combine the teaching of Karl Marx with the ideas of Kant, proposing a socialist model of life and culture, within which he coined the term "The New Man" ("homo futura" or "der neue Mensch").
