Polish Jewish mother of Schenker's long-time pupil, Angi Elias.

Rachel Elias was married to Heinrich Menachem Elias (1841‒1901), and was the mother of Valerie Grassia Venezia (later Hidasi), Ida (later Perutz), Melanie Miriam (later Albrecht), Sofie Anna (later Zerner), Elsa Ester (later Schottländer), Angelika Rifka, Manolo Menachem, medical doctor, and Jacques.

Rachel Elias and Heinrich Schenker

The two met on November 29, 1913 and conversed about Schenker's younger brother, Moritz. On April 7, 1918 Schenker sent her condolences, for which thanks were received on April 15. Rachel Elias's death is reported in OJ 10/18, [8], August 16, 1934, and a series of items from Angi Elias thereafter bear a black border. No correspondence between Rachel Elias and Heinrich Schenker is known to survive.
