One of Vienna's principal and most magnificent hotels, situated in district I (Inner City) at Kärntner Ring (Ringstraße) 16, between the Vienna State Opera and the Schwarzenbergplatz, and close to the Musikverein Building.

Built in 1863 in Italian Neo-Renaissance style by architect Arnold Zenetti as the Palais Württemberg, it was converted into a hotel in 1873.

Wilhelm Furtwängler frequently stayed at the hotel when rehearsing and conducting in Vienna, and sometimes for longer periods. Several of his letters to Schenker bear the hotel's printed letterhead.

The Café Imperial was located within the hotel, and served as an occasional meeting place for Schenker with colleagues.
